Gazing Moon Gacha System & Monetization: What to Expect
A detailed breakdown of the expected gacha system, pity mechanics, and monetization strategies in Gazing Moon based on developer interviews and industry trends.
As an upcoming open-world RPG, one of the most discussed topics in the Gazing Moon community is how the game will handle its monetization and “gacha” (character/weapon summoning) mechanics.
While Shiyue Network has not released the final official rates, we can piece together a highly accurate prediction based on the recent Guangzhou playtest, developer interviews, and current Chinese gacha market trends.
Here is what you need to know about the expected gacha system in Gazing Moon.
1. The Dual-Banner System
Like most modern anime-style open-world RPGs, Gazing Moon is expected to feature a dual-banner system:
- Character Banner (Resonance): Where players pull for new characters (like Lingbeijing or Suisui).
- Weapon/Equipment Banner: Where players pull for signature weapons or specific gear tailored to characters.
Will Moon Spirits be in the Gacha?
Highly Unlikely. The developers have explicitly stated that Moon Spirits are “citizens” of Tianyue City. You acquire them by exploring the world, using the Moon Eye to scan their needs, and battling them in Chaos Gates to cure them. Putting Moon Spirits in a gacha banner would fundamentally break the core “exploration and capture” loop the game is built upon.
2. Expected Pity Mechanics
The Chinese gacha market has become highly competitive, and players expect generous pity systems. Based on the current standard set by games in 2024-2026, Gazing Moon will likely adopt the following:
- Hard Pity: Expect a guaranteed 5-star character at 80 to 90 pulls.
- Soft Pity: Rates will likely begin to significantly increase around the 60th to 70th pull.
- The 50/50 System: When you hit a 5-star, there is usually a 50% chance it is the featured banner character. If you lose the 50/50, your next 5-star is 100% guaranteed to be the featured character.
Note: Some recent games have experimented with removing the 50/50 entirely or lowering the hard pity to 70. We will update this guide as soon as CBT2 confirms the exact numbers.
3. The “Subscription” Model (Monthly Pass & Battle Pass)
Gazing Moon will almost certainly rely on the industry-standard “Subscription” model to retain players:
The Monthly Pass (月卡)
- Cost: Typically around $5 USD (30 RMB).
- Value: Provides a lump sum of premium currency upfront, followed by a daily login drip of currency for 30 days. This is always the most cost-effective way to save for characters.
The Battle Pass (大月卡/战令)
- Cost: Typically around $10 to $15 USD (68-128 RMB).
- Value: A tiered reward system that levels up as you complete daily and weekly tasks. The paid tier usually offers exclusive 4-star weapons, abundant upgrade materials, and extra gacha pulls.
4. Why This Matters for Free-to-Play (F2P) Players
The development team has stated their goal is to create a game that a core group of players will truly love, rather than just chasing maximum revenue.
Because the Moon Spirits (the core of exploration and utility) are captured in the overworld rather than pulled from a banner, F2P players should have full access to the game’s traversal and puzzle-solving mechanics without spending money. The gacha will likely serve primarily to expand combat variety and character rosters.
