Gazing Moon OST: Music, Composers, and Sound Design

Everything you need to know about the Gazing Moon Original Soundtrack (OST). Discover the composers behind the cyberpunk-meets-traditional-Chinese music of Tianyue City.

One of the most praised aspects of Gazing Moon (望月) during its early playtests has been its incredible Original Soundtrack (OST). The game’s audio direction perfectly captures the dual nature of Tianyue City: a hyper-advanced cyberpunk metropolis built on deep, traditional foundations.

Here is everything we know so far about the music and sound design of Gazing Moon.

The Musical Style: “Neon & Erhu”

The core auditory identity of Gazing Moon can be described as a fusion of Synth-wave / Cyberpunk Electronica and Traditional Chinese Instruments.

  • Exploration Music: When traversing the upper levels of Tianyue City, the music features heavy bass synths, driving electronic beats, and atmospheric pads. However, these modern sounds are frequently punctuated by the haunting melodies of the Erhu (a two-stringed bowed musical instrument), the Guzheng, or the Dizi (Chinese zither).
  • Combat Music: Combat tracks are high-BPM, adrenaline-pumping electronic rock, similar to the soundtracks found in Punishing: Gray Raven or Cyberpunk 2077, but with traditional percussion instruments driving the rhythm.
  • The Inverted World: When players enter the anomaly zones (the Inverted World), the music becomes distorted, ambient, and unsettling, relying heavily on reversed audio samples and dissonant chords.

Who is Composing the OST?

While Shiwu Network (Xingchen Studio) has an in-house audio team, they have also collaborated with prominent figures in the Chinese ACG (Anime, Comic, Games) music scene.

  • In-House Audio Team (Xingchen Sound): Responsible for the dynamic, adaptive music system that seamlessly transitions between exploration and combat.
  • Guest Composers: Rumors suggest the team has collaborated with several well-known artists who previously worked on other major gacha titles, though official credits for specific tracks have not yet been fully released.

Standout Tracks from Playtests

During the June 2026 Guangzhou Playtest and BW2026, several tracks stood out to the community:

  1. “Neon Canopy” (Tianyue City Main Theme): The track that plays when overlooking the city from a high vantage point. It perfectly blends a melancholic Erhu solo with a pulsing synth bassline.
  2. “Gravity Court” (Lingbeijing’s Theme): A fast-paced, aggressive track featuring heavy electric guitar riffs and rapid electronic beats, matching her tennis-themed, high-impact combat style.
  3. “Chaos Collapse” (Boss Battle Theme): An intense orchestral-electronic hybrid that ramps up in tempo as the boss’s health depletes.

Where to Listen

Currently, the official OST has not been released on streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music.

However, fans have uploaded high-quality rips from the gameplay demos and playtests to YouTube and Bilibili. We expect an official “Volume 1” OST album to drop shortly before or alongside the game’s global launch in late 2026 or early 2027.
