Tianyue City Districts Guide: Exploring the Cyberpunk Metropolis
A comprehensive guide to the different districts of Tianyue City in Gazing Moon, including Nangang District, the Old Town, and the CBD.
Tianyue City (天月市) is the massive, sprawling metropolis where the story of Gazing Moon takes place. Designed with heavy inspiration from real-world Guangzhou, the city blends hyper-modern cyberpunk aesthetics with the grounded, lived-in feel of a traditional Chinese urban center.
Unlike many open-world games where the city serves merely as a backdrop, Tianyue City is designed to be a highly interactive, 3D playground. Thanks to the Moon Spirit 3C traversal system, players can climb skyscrapers, glide between rooftops, and ride vehicles through the streets.
Here is a breakdown of the known districts in Tianyue City based on the June 2026 Guangzhou Playtest and official reveals.
1. Nangang District (南岗区) - The Urban Forest
Nangang District was the primary area available for exploration during the offline playtest. The development team refers to this area internally as the “Urban Forest” (城市森林).
- Aesthetic: A striking blend of concrete and nature. The rooftops of buildings in this district are covered in lush greenery, creating a stark contrast with the neon-lit streets below.
- Moon Spirit Ecology: Because of the abundant plant life, Nangang is the primary habitat for “Flying-type” (飞行类) and nature-aligned Moon Spirits. If you are looking for Moon Spirits to help you glide across the city, the rooftops of Nangang are the best place to start.
- Vibe: It represents the harmony between modern development and ecological preservation, a core theme in Gazing Moon’s world-building.
2. The Old Town District (老城区)
The Old Town is where the game’s story begins and serves as the home base for several key characters, including the protagonist Zhao and the courier Lailai.
- Aesthetic: Heavily inspired by the historic Yuexiu District (越秀区) in Guangzhou. It features narrow alleyways, traditional shopfronts, and a strong sense of “fireworks” (烟火气)—the bustling, everyday life of the citizens.
- Key Locations:
- “All OK Commission Forum” HQ: Zhao’s base of operations.
- Meow Express (喵喵快送): The delivery company where Lailai works.
- Listening to Flowers (听花): The flower shop where Linlong is employed.
- Exploration: The Old Town is dense and vertical. Players will need to use parkour and Moon Spirit abilities to navigate the labyrinthine alleys and rooftops to find hidden chests and Chaos Moon Gates.
3. The CBD (Central Business District)
The commercial heart of Tianyue City, representing the peak of its technological advancement.
- Aesthetic: Towering glass skyscrapers, massive holographic advertisements, and multi-level highways. This area showcases the game’s impressive NBR+PBR rendering engine.
- Gameplay Focus: The CBD is expected to be the center for the game’s vehicle mechanics. The wide, multi-layered roads are perfect for driving motorcycles and other vehicles.
- Moon Spirit Ecology: Moon Spirits found here are often integrated into the city’s infrastructure, such as the “Jia Dian Wang” (加电汪), which resembles a living power bank.
4. The Inverted World (Anomalies)
The most dangerous aspect of exploring Tianyue City is encountering the Inverted World (逆世界).
- What is it? The Inverted World is an alternate dimension that occasionally bleeds into reality, creating “Anomaly Zones.”
- Visuals: When you enter an anomaly, the geometry of the city twists. Buildings may float upside down, gravity can shift, and the sky turns a dark, chaotic color.
- Gameplay: These zones act as open-world dungeons. You must defeat waves of Chaos-corrupted enemies and solve spatial puzzles to “cleanse” the anomaly, which rewards you with high-tier chests and premium currency.
The Importance of “Connection”
The development team has stated that their goal with Tianyue City is to create a sense of “Connection” (连接感) with the player. By including familiar elements like pedestrian crossings, convenience stores, and realistic urban layouts, they want players to feel like they are exploring a real, breathing city, rather than just a theme park for combat.
