Gazing Moon Progression Guide: Characters and Weapons
A comprehensive guide to upgrading your characters and weapons in Gazing Moon. Learn about ascension materials, level caps, and weapon refinements.
Pulling a 5-star character in Gazing Moon (望月) is only the first step. To survive the harder challenges in Tianyue City and the Inverted World, you need to understand the game’s progression systems.
Here is a complete guide to leveling your characters and upgrading their weapons.
Character Progression
Character progression in Gazing Moon is gated by your overall “Account Level” (often called Trailblaze Level or Adventure Rank in similar games).
Leveling and Ascension
- Base Leveling: You use Character EXP items (found in chests, quests, or farmed from specific domains) to increase a character’s base level, which boosts their HP, Attack, and Defense.
- Level Caps: Characters hit a level cap every 10 or 20 levels (e.g., Level 20, 40, 50, etc.).
- Ascension: To break past a level cap, you must “Ascend” the character. This requires specific materials:
- Boss Drops: Materials dropped by specific Elite Bosses found in the open world.
- Local Specialties: Plants, ores, or items gathered exclusively in certain districts of Tianyue City.
- Mob Drops: Common materials dropped by everyday enemies.
Skill Upgrades (Talents)
Leveling a character does not automatically increase the damage multipliers of their specific attacks. You must manually upgrade their skills (Basic Attack, Skill, Ultimate, and Passives) using a different set of materials, typically farmed from dedicated “Skill Material Domains” that rotate their drops based on the day of the week.
Weapon Progression
Weapons provide the largest boost to a character’s base Attack stat and offer powerful passive abilities.
Weapon Types
Each character in Gazing Moon is locked to a specific weapon type. Currently known weapon types include:
- Swords / Blades: Used by fast, agile DPS characters like Zhao.
- Heavy Weapons (Greatswords/Hammers): Used for slow, heavy-hitting attacks.
- Guns / Ranged: Used for sustained damage from a distance.
- Anomalous Weapons: Unique items like Kongqing’s Camera or magical catalysts.
Leveling and Ascension
Weapon progression mirrors character progression:
- You use Weapon EXP items (or sacrifice lower-tier weapons) to level them up.
- They hit level caps and require “Weapon Ascension Materials” to uncap. These materials are farmed from specific domains.
Refinement (Duplicates)
If you pull a duplicate of a weapon from the gacha system, you can use it to “Refine” the original weapon.
- Refinement does not increase the weapon’s base stats (Attack/HP).
- Instead, it enhances the weapon’s passive ability.
- For example, a weapon that grants a 10% damage boost at Refinement 1 might grant a 20% damage boost at Refinement 5 (the maximum level, requiring 4 duplicates).
The Equipment System (Relics/Artifacts)
Beyond base levels and weapons, the true endgame progression in Gazing Moon revolves around the equipment system (similar to Artifacts in Genshin Impact).
Players farm specific domains to obtain pieces of equipment that fit into different slots (e.g., Head, Arms, Chest, Legs).
- These items provide randomized main stats and sub-stats (like Crit Rate, Crit Damage, Elemental Mastery, etc.).
- Equipping multiple pieces from the same “Set” grants powerful set bonuses.
- Farming for the “perfect” equipment pieces with the right randomized sub-stats is the primary endgame activity for high-level players.
