Gazing Moon Elements Guide: Attributes and Reactions

Master the combat system in Gazing Moon. Learn about the eight elements (Bagua), attribute weaknesses, and how to trigger Chaos Collapse.

Combat in Gazing Moon (望月) is fast-paced, but raw physical damage won’t get you far against elite enemies. To master the game, you must understand its unique elemental system, which is heavily inspired by the traditional Chinese Bagua (八卦).

Here is a complete guide to attributes, weaknesses, and the core combat mechanic: Chaos Collapse.

The Eight Attributes (Bagua)

Unlike games that use standard elements (Fire, Water, Grass), Gazing Moon uses the Eight Trigrams of the Bagua. While they map somewhat to traditional elements, they have unique interactions.

The known attributes are:

  1. Li Fire (离火): Represents fire and heat. (Used by Zhao)
  2. Kan Water (坎水): Represents water and ice. (Used by Kongqing)
  3. Zhen Thunder (震雷): Represents electricity and lightning. (Used by Lailai)
  4. Xun Wind (巽风): Represents wind and air currents. (Used by Linlong)
  5. Gen Mountain (艮山): Represents earth, gravity, and heavy physical force. (Used by Lingbeijing)
  6. Dui Swamp (兑泽): Represents marsh, poison, or corrosive elements.
  7. Qian Heaven (乾天): Represents light or holy energy (Rare).
  8. Kun Earth (坤地): Represents deep earth or dark energy (Rare).

Attribute Weaknesses and Resistance

Every enemy in the game, especially Chaos creatures and wild Moon Spirits, has a dominant attribute.

  • Attacking an enemy with an element they are weak against will deal bonus damage and rapidly deplete their “Posture Gauge” (the yellow bar beneath their health).
  • Attacking an enemy with their own element will result in resisted damage.

Note: The exact weakness circle (e.g., Water beats Fire) is still being balanced in the beta tests, but generally follows traditional elemental logic combined with Bagua principles.

The Core Mechanic: Chaos Collapse (Stun)

Gazing Moon does not have complex, lingering elemental reactions like Genshin Impact’s Vaporize or Bloom. Instead, the elemental system feeds entirely into the Chaos Collapse mechanic.

  1. Build the Gauge: By hitting an enemy with their elemental weakness, you rapidly fill their hidden “Instability” meter and deplete their Posture Gauge.
  2. Trigger Collapse: Once the Posture Gauge is broken, the enemy enters a “Chaos Collapse” state. They are stunned, unable to move, and take massively increased damage from all sources.
  3. Moon Spirit QTEs: Triggering a Chaos Collapse often prompts a Quick Time Event (QTE). Swapping characters or calling in a Moon Spirit at this exact moment will unleash a devastating cinematic attack.

Team Building for Elements

Because breaking the Posture Gauge is the most important part of combat, you should never build a team with only one element.

  • Diverse Coverage: A standard 4-character team should cover at least three different elements to ensure you can break the shields of various enemy types.
  • The “Universal” Breakers: Elements like Gen Mountain (Gravity/Earth) often act as universal posture breakers against physical shields, while Xun Wind is excellent for spreading other elements across multiple enemies.
